Plot Summary:
Ahmed meets Gracie one night when she drunkenly leaves a bar and attempts to operate her vehicle. He comes to her rescue by putting her in his car and taking her home. A few days later, their paths happen to collide again, this time at a fast food joint where Gracie is having lunch with her co-worker/BFF, Bright. Initially, Ahmed is too scared to approach Gracie as he thinks that Bright is her boyfriend; however, once he does his research and finds out that Bright is in fact just a friend he begins to pursue Gracie relentlessly. So what is the problem you wonder (I just said that in my best Julie Andrews from sound of music voice)- well, he is Muslim and she is Christian.
!!!Spoilers ahead!!!
Lol I don't even know where to begin with this movie honestly. It had great potential, really it did, but they wasted it.
Pros:
The chemistry between the three female lead friends was really nice. It wasn't a forced friendship like you see in most of these movies - from watching this you would think all three ladies were truly friends in real life. All the actors did a good job! That's probably the only reason I persevered to finish the movie (plus I needed to write this review). Honestly, Ramsey, Ramsey, Ramsey - um um um - in my mind, this is my husband right here. He is a great
Cons:
This movie is ridiculously long and it wasn't even worth it at the end.
Ramsey and Chika had no chemistry - they should have cast people with better chemistry. I mean, how can you be fighting for love against all odds if the viewers cannot even feel the love between you two??? #scatcheshead
My thoughts:
At the beginning of the movie, we see Gracie's female co-worker come on to her (Gracie) - this makes it seem as if Gracie and this young lady had a relationship at some point. Yet this was not explored further, so what was the point in making the insinuation to begin with?
_____________
Also, the scene where Ahmed barges into Gracie's home at night to ask her out for the first time. She goes: please leave my house and he refuses to go. Gracie's the says: "well am going out, you can remain here if you want". Next thing we know, Gracie is in her nightwear (at this point am wondering, has she already gone out and come back?) ... ok next thing we know, it's morning. we see Ahmed sleeping on her couch ... he wakes up and demands coffee and she goes to make him coffee - LOL WHAT! you don't even want him in your house yet you let him sleep over and also make him coffee #howludicrous. The whole scene was so contradictory and bizarre, I couldn't even laugh about it #sigh. Also, from that same scene, they portrayed Ahmed as a conceited a**hole but as the movie progressed, it turns out his not -so idk why they even went there to begin with.
_____________
Moving on, the movie progresses, we see Gracie's friend (Mona) telling Gracie to give Ahmed a chance and date him. Now my question is: why is it that no one had any qualms with Gracie and Ahmed's friendship in the beginning stages? But the moment they started getting serious and talking marriage, suddenly everyone is against it?
_____________
I don't know if they did much research before acting this movie. I find it hard to believe that the Muslims are really the way they were portrayed in this movie. And my gosh they portrayed Christians as a bunch of judgmental lunatics, like c'mon! Finally, one would think that after dragging the movie through 4 freaking parts, it would at least have a happy "against all odds ending" but nope! In fact I felt annoyed at the end like I just wasted my time. What was the point in fighting your parents and friends through 4 movie parts if you will end up not marrying the so called love of your life? ... And whose child was that at the very last scene? (still scratching my head seriously).
_____________
worst scene ever:
Gracie is telling Mona about her first kiss with Ahmed.
“Talking of the Muslim guy, he kissed me last night.”
“How did it taste?”
“Like strawberries and Irish Cream.”
Uhm what? what foolish conversation - who asks someone what a kiss tasted like? seriously? sigh
Recommended?
Do you have something else to spend 3 hours of your life doing? If yes, I do not recommend this. If no, then go right ahead naa just go to sleep, this movie ain't worth it.
