Timeless Passion (Sequel: Passionate Heart)

Disclaimer: I saw this movie a long time ago, it's basically been sitting behind-the-scenes as a draft post and I am trying to clean up and publish all my incomplete draft posts. So this is one of them. I still remember the basic koko of the movie but I can't do a very detailed review because I don't remember most of the details. And nope I can't be bothered to go re-watch it now  #aintnobodygottimeforthat!

Plot Summary:

Mildred, the "god-is-my-strength-thus-i-shall-not-fight-for-myself-and-kids widow who returns to Nigeria with her kids to mourn  her husband/their father. However, they are met with animosity from their in-laws (specifically the frustrated-devil's-incarnate-sister-in-law who is the major instigator) who accuse Mildred of killing her husband, and decide to make her life miserable until she confesses to her crimes. Her sister-in-law, Ifeanyi, basically makes it her life's mission to see to it that Mildred goes through all the widowhood rites, and even seizes her passport and that of her kids so that they can’t return to UK. In the bid to find some peace of mind, she (Mildred) goes to church and from there she meets this man, Andrew, who follows her home. As the movie progresses, we find out more about Andrew -  who is he? why does he care so much about a woman he barely knows? do they fall in love and live happily ever after? hehe I kid I kid lol ... Meanwhile, her wayward-British-brought-up-spoiled-brat of a daughter is running amok and fighting with her mother over Andrew because she has the hots for him. Gaijawood say what? LOL .... Anyway you guys have to watch to figure out what happened.

Pros: 

It is a simple movie that had its funny moments (esp. the church scene with Jessica trying to get Andrew's attention lmao) and it's romance was clean (nothing too sappy thank God). Oh and let's not forget the scene where Ramsey is kneeling at the altar in church and screaming at the Lord for help ... all I could think of was how beautiful this man is (yes he is married and am a sinner but choi!).

Cons:

The audio was pretty messed up in some scenes, you have to keep turning it down or turning it up

Only Jessica had a British accent in the movie - LOL I guess Mildred and the other two kids decided not to bother themselves. 

Letters To My Mother

Honestly I can't quite decide how I feel about this movie - I don't know if I should be annoyed or if I should just burst out laughing! Sigh here goes: 

Starring John Dumelo, Kafui Danku, Adjetey Anang, Paulina Oduro, Eddie Watson, Roselyn Ngissah

Plot:

It's basically a story of this mentally disturbed man, Mike (John Dumelo), who is incarcerated in an institution and has not said a word to anyone for the past 5 (or 6) years. All he does is write letters to his mother. Eventually, they send this renowned psychiatrist (played by Adjetey Anang) to take on Mike as a patient and during his visits to Mike, he starts reading through the numerous letters Mike had written to his mother. 

From these letters we learn of how Mike returned home from overseas with Angie (Kafui Danku) - his fiance and mother of his unborn child - in a bid to introduce her to his beloved mother (Paulina Oduro) and seek her blessings to marry the woman he loves. However, he is shocked to find his mother highly unwelcoming to his new bride and she wouldn't give him a descent explanation as to why she has such strong disapproval and neither would his wife Angie shed any light on the enmity between her and her future mother-in-law. Through a series of events and circumstances Mike finally learns the truth which was basically full of the wickedness and betrayal of human beings. All these events then led to his mental/psychotic breakdown and lots of bloodshed.

Okay guys, that was the best I could do without giving too much of the storyline away or did i already give too much? LOL

Plot Summary:

Ahmed meets Gracie one night when she drunkenly leaves a bar and attempts to operate her vehicle. He comes to her rescue by putting her in his car and taking her home. A few days later, their paths happen to collide again, this time at a fast food joint where Gracie is having lunch with her co-worker/BFF, Bright. Initially, Ahmed is too scared to approach Gracie as he thinks that Bright is her boyfriend; however, once he does his research and finds out that Bright is in fact just a friend he begins to pursue Gracie relentlessly. So what is the problem you wonder (I just said that in my best Julie Andrews from sound of music voice)- well, he is Muslim and she is Christian.

I saw this movie sometime in January (wrote a draft review but never posted it lol) ...

A romance flick featuring Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Clem Ohaneze. Basically, Ramsey uses and dumps girls who are introduced to him by his cousin (i.e. his cousin arranges girls for him ...ps: a female cousin ooo smh). Anyway, he meets Chelsea (Genevieve)and falls madly in love with her (I know so typical lol). He then decides he has had enough of random girls, and turns a new leaf for her with intentions of marrying her. But as it turns out, Chelsea ain't having any of his sappy love. She is in love with another man Ray (Clem Ohaneze) who cares more about his work than he cares about his girl. So it's basically a sort of love triangle: Ramsey wants Chelsea, Chelsea wants Ray, Ray wants his Work lol...

I know whatchu y'all thinking, I already told the story so what's new huh? Well y'all have to watch it to find out who ends up getting his or her heart's desire and before you jump to conclusions, there is a nice twist in the story ;)

Pros:

No soft porn scenes, and the acting was good

Cons:

Some fast forwarding necessary.

All in all:

An Average movie, but I recommend.

Passion and Pain

Story: A beautiful university student (Genevieve Nnaji) gets caught up between two guys fighting for her love. Sorry I can't tell you much more than this cos then I will be telling you the whole story


Pros: the whole movie is in ONE part (I know unbelievable!), I loved who ended up winning her heart :D


Cons: None Really, it was a good movie.

I broke my heart

I can't decide how I feel about this movie. So am gonna classify it as watch at your own risk and as partially recommended. 

Featuring Mike Ezuruonye, Yvonne Okaro and Yvonne Nelson, the movie had the potential to be great. I even persevered till the end of the movie (can't believe I lasted that long) just to give it a chance.

At the end, I just felt like the writers couldn't decide what direction they wanted to go with the story. One minute Mike and his wife are being lovey dovey, next minute they are arguing about careers, next thing they are becoming distant because wife works too much (which makes no sense since she worked at the bank and we all know banks close early mchteeeeww). Mike, on the other hand, works as a movie director/producer but aparently has more time for family than his wife *rolls eyes*. 

Anyway, they are a family of three (mike, wife and one kid) but can't seem to be able to manage their home (oh btw they also have a cook!). One day, wifey runs into her long lost and trusted childhood friend (Yvonne Nelson) and gets the brilliant idea to help 'said friend' out by offering her shelter and a job. So Yvonne Nelson comes to live with her in her matrimonial home as her guest/house help. And talking of house, that their "house" was just ridiculous!!!! Maybe people actually live in a "house" like that but based on this movie it was unrealistic for this family to live in such a house. The producers didn't try at all when they chose that house. 

Back to the story: the good thing is that it didn't go the typical long-lost-friend-comes-into-matrimonial-home -and-steals-husband/gets-preggos-route ... phew! That is not to say that husband didnt start falling in love w/ said long-lost friend ooo (y'all shoulda seen that one coming). Did I mention that wifey had two coniving, lying, backstabbing bitches as best friends? Little did she know that said besties were plotting the downfall of her marriage.  

My problem with this movie is the unrealistic nature of it. How can a family of three - husband, wife and one child not be able to cope even though they have a cook already(they definitely did not need Yvonne Nelson's help in my opinion!) Besides, every normal woman knows better than to invite another grown ass and beautiful woman into her matrimonial home (doesn't matter how much you trust your husband he is still a man!). Also, which bank employee works past 6pm (you ain't the owner of the bank). And my God, that house was ridiculous (yes i still can't get over that one)... can someone say over-exaggeration? And the wife's mother was just useless when it came to advising her daughter smh! Also, what kind of woman doesn't know her friends? Esp. those she calls best friends! Did I mention that towards the end of the movie, the workaholic wifey suddenly had all the time in the world - typical Gaija movie...no coherence! 

I don't know how i feel about this movie. It would have been good if they had at least made it more realistic. Shrugs, y'all can watch it when you don't have anything better to watch. Honestly it's not as bad as Blackberry Babes or Beyonce and Rihanna. And I actually like the two Yvonne's [not because they are my namesakes ;)] and Mike. So give it a shot at your own risk:

Turn Me On 1 and 2

My first post as a writer for this blog!
I was waiting for a movie that I'd seen that Yv hadn't already reviewed and I found one that I actually really liked.

Other than the name which I don't think has anything to do with the movie, Turn Me On was actually really good. It's the story of the Buckman family who have come to share their father's property after he dies. The children Tyler (John Dumelo) the lawyer, Kendell (Jackie Appiah) the fashion designer and Woody some kind of former footballer wannabe musician druggie (I'm not really clear on his job) all come in with their secrets and immediate needs for the money they expect to be getting. Enter Julia, their father's illegitimate child and their plans are thrown into disarray as deception, blackmail and greed take the front seat.

I really liked the pace of this movie; the flashbacks were short and to the point and everything came together at the right time. It was really interesting to see the unexpected plot twists and to find out where all the trouble for the first 3 children was coming from. Other than a few supporting characters, the acting was good. The movie didn't seem too long. I had to watch it in 2 different places so I'm not sure of the length but it really didn't feel like it was dragging on forever. One of my problems with it was that the one sex scene they had, I felt was unnecessary. It was tame compared to some of the other stuff they are bringing out now but I think it would have been better to not have it altogether. I swear I can't listen to another actress moan at nothing. I really liked the story though so I definitely recommend it. It was a really good movie.

Here's the trailer. It gives away a bit more than I think is necessary but you should still watch the movie to find out why exactly the father's estate/company being broke is the ultimate slap in the face. The movie is on arodrive (youtube too but it's not complete there).

My Soul Mate/ End of Soul Mate

Hulllloooooo guys, its been a while! A little update before I go into this movie....

We now have a new blog contributor...drum rolls... meeeeet ...1 minute suspense... I introduce to you allllll ....ok, my very good friend Rae! Yay!!!! 

She is gonna help me with the blog and ...... am so freaking excited :D

Now back to the movie....a relatively good movie just cos I like the ending lol. About a lady (Mercy Johnson) who gave up her child and 10years later went in search of her, found the household that had her child and decides to get a job impersonating a nanny or "professional child trainer" as she prefers to be called (totally rolling my eyes lol) in order to get close to the gurl...long story short, watch it to see how it unfolds. Do I recommend it? Yes and No. 

YES cos it's a partially good storyline, the little girl is cute and the ending was nice lol 

NO cos it's relatively slow and had this boring streak to it. You can predict the story before it's told, the lace front wig on Mercy's friend is very tacky and irritating, and boy, the excessive crying is OH MY LAUD!!! Not to mention the sex scene (ewww #throws up - pls kill me now#} 

seems to have more negatives than positives huh? Why did I watch it to the end? guess it's a slow day for me ;-} 

Can't decide? Ask yourself: am I a Van Vicker/ Mercy Johnson fan? If Yes, watch it. If No, uhhmmm what can I say...just do the coin toss already lol
