Compulsory Risk 1&2

Cast:
Chidiebere and Chidinma Aneke (“Aneke Twins”), Van Vicker, Patience Ozokwor, Camilla Mbereke

Plot:
Martha and Mary are twin sisters whose relationship is put to the test when Mary marries Martha's boyfriend while her sister is away, successfully deceiving everyone, all in the name of helping her. What happens when everyone finds out the truth?

Pros:
They were actual identical twins, not the same person playing two roles or two people who vaguely look alike. The premise is interesting. The acting was manageable on some fronts.

Cons:
The story was rubbish – time that could have been used to flesh out the story was spent on nothing useful. Production had some suspect moments {SPOILER ALERT: The wedding scene involves “snapshots” of the wedding that were clearly paused video if the twitching was anything to go by}.

Overall (some spoilers ahead):
I was very disappointed because I saw where the story could have gone but for whatever reason, the writers decided to take the lazy way out. There were way too many coincidences and “how can” moments for it to be believable, and the conclusion was way too convenient. Why did neither Stanley nor Martha know the other’s whereabouts? Why the hell did Mary even take Martha’s spot in the first place? We’re told it was so the man wouldn’t run off with anyone else but that is just a load of nonsense. Personally, I don’t think this movie is worth the watch but if unlike me, you’re able to get past the lack of motivators and the plot holes, you might enjoy it.

Letters To My Mother

Honestly I can't quite decide how I feel about this movie - I don't know if I should be annoyed or if I should just burst out laughing! Sigh here goes:

Starring John Dumelo, Kafui Danku, Adjetey Anang, Paulina Oduro, Eddie Watson, Roselyn Ngissah

Plot:
It's basically a story of this mentally disturbed man, Mike (John Dumelo), who is incarcerated in an institution and has not said a word to anyone for the past 5 (or 6) years. All he does is write letters to his mother. Eventually, they send this renowned psychiatrist (played by Adjetey Anang) to take on Mike as a patient and during his visits to Mike, he starts reading through the numerous letters Mike had written to his mother.
From these letters we learn of how Mike returned home from overseas with Angie (Kafui Danku) - his fiance and mother of his unborn child - in a bid to introduce her to his beloved mother (Paulina Oduro) and seek her blessings to marry the woman he loves. However, he is shocked to find his mother highly unwelcoming to his new bride and she wouldn't give him a descent explanation as to why she has such strong disapproval and neither would his wife Angie shed any light on the enmity between her and her future mother-in-law. Through a series of events and circumstances Mike finally learns the truth which was basically full of the wickedness and betrayal of human beings. All these events then led to his mental/psychotic breakdown and lots of bloodshed.

Okay guys, that was the best I could do without giving too much of the storyline away or did i already give too much? LOL

The Other Side of Love

This is an update on one of the movies from this post: OMG! 3 Movies That Redefine Stupidity!!!

Cast: JJ Bunny, Ramsey Nouah, Pascal Atuma, Rex Otuka

So this is the second movie that I originally couldn't get myself to watch --> out of boredom I decided to give it a chance and here goes:

  • am pissed that onlinenigeria would not let me fast forward the movie so I had to mute some scenes and watch something else until those scenes are done -->Yes, it was that frustrating.
  • am pissed that i actually decided to give this movie a chance
  • am pissed that Ramsey Nouah took part in this tomfoolery called a storyline
  • am pissed at the portrayal of Nigerian lawyers in this movie! am not a lawyer but damn am so pissed about the lawyer's role in this movie!
  • am pissed at the portrayal of the FBI in this movie! how ludicrous! In fact the FBI should sue the producers for defamation of character!
Unto the "supposed" true life story:
  • basically, the movie is about 4 girlfriends that are supposedly successful except for one who is a housewife with 3 kids (in her misconstrued mind, that isn't success). The latter (Buki) went to nursing school with the successful home health care owner (Stella) but didn't pass her board exam (NCLEX).  Stella's health care center became very successful. Anyway during one of their girlfriend gatherings. Buki became jealous of Stella and set out to destroy her. and what does she do? she calls the FBI and reports Stella for defrauding medicare and IRS via an anonymous tip and the rest of the movie basically involves the FBI investigating Stella and the IRS sending her letters about how much she owes them and medicare trying to sue her and what not. Anyway, Stella goes to see her lawyer (who in my opinonu should be disbarred!) and the yeye lawyer advises her to send money to Nigeria before the federal gov' freezes all her accounts and he connects her to this unknown guy who she would drop the money off with and the guy will then send the money to Nigeria to anyone she wants the money to go to (I haff died of lafta here! that's one helluva trust to bestow unto a total stranger, in this day and age of 419). Anyway, she only communicates with this guy via a safe and secure chat line (na so!) the same chat line that the FBI easily hacked and a 419er also hacked and duped her of her money ... hehehe. I don't want to tell the whole story (not that there is much left to tell) but let me conclude by saying the rest of the plot unraveled on the same day in a park (that is where both the 419er, the legit money transfer guy, the FBI and Stella all collided :D)
My "WTF!" Moment!
  • Please if IRS and medicare are investigating you, is it a good idea to suddenly start withdrawing large some of money from your account? (My people biko help me comprendre)
  • I don't understand how the FBI was supposedly investigating her and tracking her every move and yet they didn't act on the money withdrawals or even bring her in for questioning about her chat conversation on money transfer (cos recall the FBI could see the chat). By the way, the FBI knew someone else was monitoring the chatline and in every scene, the FBI agent says "track down the other IP address", yet they never did track it down :-S
  • Towards the end of the movie, it turns out that her love interest in the movie - Michael (Ramsey Nouah), was the same as the invisible money transfer guy -->  he was actually legit in doing the transfers (because it was a 419er that hacked into her chat line with Michael and duped her of 1mil). Oh and it also turns out that Michael is her on of her bff's brother.
  • After the park scene above where the FBI arrested them all, the movie fast forwards 2 yrs later and we see Ramsey and Stella on couch, Buki on the street begging for money and the movie ends (clearly I exaggerated this last summary but that's pretty much it)
    • We never did find out what happened to the 419 guy
    • Somehow Ramsey survived being shot at the park and didn't go to prison
    • Stella who was arrested was somehow released without explanation. what happened with her case with the IRS, medicare etc? did she get back her 1 mil? what  conclusion did the FBI reach in their investigation
    • Buki somehow lost her home and husband to beg on the street???? how did that happen? and how did Stella find out it was Buki that reported her to the FBI?
So many hows??? In conclusion this movie is very stupid! They claimed it is a true life story! Na So! This tori no make sense joh! rubbish...

Here are the links to the movie if anyone still wants to go ahead and watch it (no sa I no warn una shaa) -->

Miss Fashion/Fashion Parade

From the name I should have stayed away. But on the recommendation of somebody whose ass I will kick when next I see them, I decided to watch this movie, expecting to laugh a lot. Some parts of this movie were amusing, but overall, I found myself staring at the screen waiting for one scene to end, wondering why I was still watching it.

The movie recycled most of the cast of Blackberry Babes – Mary Remmy, Oge Okoye, Tonto Dike, Eniola Badmus and Muna Obiekwe – and gave them roles similar to the ones they played in the first movie. The other notable actress was Chike Ike. She yelled and fought her way through this movie and I just wanted to make a soothing cup of tea to calm her down and then enroll her in anger management classes.

As far as I can tell, the movie is about the Miss Fashion competition which Tonto’s character had won before the start of the movie. However, the competition itself doesn’t happen until Fashion Parade 1 or 2 which means that for the 2 or 3 hours before, the movie consisted of these women plotting, forming and fighting amongst themselves for men and “designer” clothes. It is difficult to tell who the lead actress of this movie so I will go with Tonto, Oge and Chike. There were like 3 guys in the entire movie so clearly Muna takes the lead actor position.

The movie is pretty much Blackberry Babes meets Fulton Mansion and it might have been funnier to me if I hadn’t seen either. It has its moments but overall it fell short and the end was not in any way useful or gratifying. Fashion competition ends, movie ends. The acting wasn’t bad considering what they had to work with. Like I said, the characters are similar to the ones many of them have played before. [On a side note, can they please stop casting Tonto and Oge as university students? I’m not sure if they were supposed to be in this movie but they have been before and personally I’m not buying it. I’m interested in seeing Damaged, Tonto’s new movie to see the kind of role she plays. Hopefully, she tries a more challenging role.]
I sincerely hope that Nollywood writers are not going to make these kinds of movies again, or at least add a little bit of substance to them if they are. I understand they’re supposed to be light hearted fare purely for entertainment. I am not expecting a life lesson but I don’t want to feel like I’ve just wasted my life by the time I’m done. Cut characters, cut scenes, tighten the dialogue and for the love of all things watchable tell better stories.

That is all.

(For some reason, I was unable to find a big enough poster picture, so I used some movie stills some lovely individuals on the internet have done.)

Every Woman

Featuring Van Vicker, Mercy Johnson and a bunch of other women.

Storyline:
Van can sleep with anything that has a vajayjay as easily as he can breath in air. All the women are dumb as EFF and don't give a crap if he is a walking STD.

Pros:
I managed through part one. At least his sales boys were funny

Cons:
I turned it off after part one #kanyeshrug

Final Verdict:
watch it and then let me know if you think it's worth an actually review!

Part 1

Part 2:

Ok maybe I would give it another go sometime in the future ... until then please occupy your eyes with something better.

Emerald and Wild Passion (Sequel to Emerald)

Hmmm where to start with this review? I was really excited to see this movie after it was recommended by some people online (nairaland.com). But I have to say am very disappointed with the movie. It had such potential in part 1 (despite my fast forwarding) but it literally went downhill afterwards.

The main characters are Majid Michel (as Maximillan), Genevieve Nnaji (as Emerald), Tonto Dikeh (Becky), Geraldine Ekeocha (Mrs. Davies), Halima Abubakar (Mary), Ladi Tortty (Clarissa) and Ikechukwu Onyeka (Stan).

Basically,  Becky returns from the UK, decides to open an antique shop and asks Emerald (her cousin) for help(Emerald recently graduated with a degree in business admin). One day, they go to an antique dealer to purchase some items and Emerald comes across an emerald ring. An older lady (who appears to be a sales assistant in the store) see her admiring the ring and insists that Emerald buys the ring as it is meant for her. She tells Emerald to pay whatever amount she can afford for the ring; so, Emerald ends up buying it for N5000.  Later at lunch Emerald tells Becky about the ring and Becky tells her that the ring should be worth over 10000 euros.
Shocked Emerald tells Becky that the older lady sold it to her for only N5000 but Becky did not recall seeing any older lady in the store (which seemed strange). Emerald decides to return the ring because she feels bad about buying it for so cheap. But that night she falls asleep wearing the ring and ends up having a very strange dream. The rest of the movie then revolves around her strange dreams, the emerald ring, and the mysterious old lady who sold her the ring.

Pros:
I really can't think of any pros to this movie.

Cons:
OMG where do I start in this category?  First,I couldn't really feel the chemistry between Majid and Genevieve (which was rather disappointing!).
Tonto Dikeh cannot act as far as am concerned and that is all i have to say for her. Now the storyline of this movie had so much potential but it failed to live up to expectation. From flashback to dream to reality with no form of clarity in between. Gosh I was so confused and the sequel of the movie (Wild Passion) only helped in fueling my confusion and annoyance.
Genevieve's first dream was about her and Majid and some kind of plantation work. Majid's family were the plantation owners while Genevieve and the other workers were the plantation "slaves" etc.
My problem with this dream is they never did tie it up with the rest of the movie. Yes in "reality" Genevieve met Majid in a different setting and every major event that happened in her dream also happened in the same sequence except there weren't any plantations involved ... OH WAIT!!! This "reality" turned out to actually be another dream confused...
YES, by the end of Wild Passion 2 (the sequel), we realize that all of Emerald (both parts 1 and 2), and Wild Passion 1 (a complete and useless flashback of Emerald part 1 SMDH!) were all dreams that told the story of what happened in the past. So it's now up to the modern day Emerald to prevent the occurrences in her dreams from happening in real life rolleyes.

Bikonu how the olden day Emerald (the slave worker) & Maximillan and the modern day Emerald & Maximilan relate to one another is beyond me *scratches head in confusion*. The whole movie revolved around the emerald ring but we never actually got a full story of this ring and how it got past down to generation ... neither did they bother to actually explain what happened to the servant girl who the ring supposedly belonged to. And WHO DA EFF was that old lady? They never even told us her story or explain why only Emerald could see her? *angry face* Not to mention Majid's wife (the wheel chair wife).... did she go scot free after plotting and killing her husband ???? Oh wait maybe that scene was also a dream! ...OMG I was so effing confused and irritated with this movie evilevil!!! Honestly this movie made no sense to me and the horrible lighting made watching it extremely hard. I DO NOT recommend it at all.

the movie is on onlinenigeria.com for those interested:

the sequel (wild passion) is on there too.

Enjoy

I broke my heart

I can't decide how I feel about this movie. So am gonna classify it as watch at your own risk and as partially recommended.
Featuring Mike Ezuruonye, Yvonne Okaro and Yvonne Nelson, the movie had the potential to be great. I even persevered till the end of the movie (can't believe I lasted that long) just to give it a chance.
At the end, I just felt like the writers couldn't decide what direction they wanted to go with the story. One minute Mike and his wife are being lovey dovey, next minute they are arguing about careers, next thing they are becoming distant because wife works too much (which makes no sense since she worked at the bank and we all know banks close early mchteeeeww). Mike, on the other hand, works as a movie director/producer but aparently has more time for family than his wife *rolls eyes*.
Anyway, they are a family of three (mike, wife and one kid) but can't seem to be able to manage their home (oh btw they also have a cook!). One day, wifey runs into her long lost and trusted childhood friend (Yvonne Nelson) and gets the brilliant idea to help 'said friend' out by offering her shelter and a job. So Yvonne Nelson comes to live with her in her matrimonial home as her guest/house help. And talking of house, that their "house" was just ridiculous!!!! Maybe people actually live in a "house" like that but based on this movie it was unrealistic for this family to live in such a house. The producers didn't try at all when they chose that house.
Back to the story: the good thing is that it didn't go the typical long-lost-friend-comes-into-matrimonial-home -and-steals-husband/gets-preggos-route ... phew! That is not to say that husband didnt start falling in love w/ said long-lost friend ooo (y'all shoulda seen that one coming). Did I mention that wifey had two coniving, lying, backstabbing bitches as best friends? Little did she know that said besties were plotting the downfall of her marriage.

My problem with this movie is the unrealistic nature of it. How can a family of three - husband, wife and one child not be able to cope even though they have a cook already(they definitely did not need Yvonne Nelson's help in my opinion!) Besides, every normal woman knows better than to invite another grown ass and beautiful woman into her matrimonial home (doesn't matter how much you trust your husband he is still a man!). Also, which bank employee works past 6pm (you ain't the owner of the bank). And my God, that house was ridiculous (yes i still can't get over that one)... can someone say over-exaggeration? And the wife's mother was just useless when it came to advising her daughter smh! Also, what kind of woman doesn't know her friends? Esp. those she calls best friends! Did I mention that towards the end of the movie, the workaholic wifey suddenly had all the time in the world - typical Gaija movie...no coherence!

I don't know how i feel about this movie. It would have been good if they had at least made it more realistic. Shrugs, y'all can watch it when you don't have anything better to watch. Honestly it's not as bad as Blackberry Babes or Beyonce and Rihanna. And I actually like the two Yvonne's [not because they are my namesakes ;)] and Mike. So give it a shot at your own risk:

All the Blackberry Babes movies

I was going to write a review for this movie when it first came out but I never finished it. As I’m writing this, I’m yet to finish BBB 2 but I saw and heard enough of it to figure out what went on. I’m writing this now because 2 more parts were just released last week and provided what I hope is the end of the story.

For those who don’t know, there are four parts to this movie. Not four videos, four actual parts: Blackberry Babes 1 and 2 and Return of Blackberry Babes 1 and 2. This name was milked for all it’s worth and the filmmaker just decided to prolong the uselessness. Between Tonto’s bendy rollers, the excessive overdo, the fone and the number of times I heard the term Blackberry, this movie was working my last nerve by the end.

There are way too many characters and way too many side stories to begin to explain them without confusion. Just know that the premise of the movie is the addiction to Blackberrys many Nigerian girls apparently have and the foolish lengths some people will go just to show off and the story revolves around a group of frenemies: Vivienne (Tonto Dikeh), Damisa (Oge Okoye), Kim, Keisha aka Geisha (Mary Remmy) and Nichole. There were 2 or 3 other girls in their crew whose names I can’t remember because they did absolutely nothing of worth. Tonto and Oge were at the top of the pack with their 5 to 7 blackberries and all the other girls were killing themselves trying to catch up. Other secondary characters worth mentioning are Apollonia (Eniola Badmus), Muna Ibekwe and Tonto’s uncle because they really are the only ones who were constant through all the movies. There really isn’t much to know other than these girls will do anything for a Blackberry phone and constantly show off.

The producer is the same guy who made Beyonce vs. Rihanna or Beyonce and Rihanna and I am ashamed to say I made it through that joke of a production; I really wasn’t expecting anything from this movie to be honest. For the first two parts, the story was very one dimensional and it suddenly changed in the last two so that it wasn’t really about Blackberrys that much anymore.

Pros:
The movie is funny in parts but then it gets redundant. I think it’s meant to be a satirical look at girls’ obsessions with material things, in this case blackberries, in which case the forming and fonerizing and everything makes sense. Of course they over did it in places, it wouldn’t be a Nigerian film without the girl with one line pouring all her frustrations with her role into that line or without somebody aka Oge Okoye claiming she had an interview with the American Emberssy.’ But I’m trying to be positive by saying that the message of this movie is that too much attachment to trivial things is bad. It's a sad sad situation if this is how it actually is. What else? Not all the acting was horrible. Apollonia, Tonto, the girl who played Kim and I guess Muna and Oge were not that bad compared to others in the movie, fone and tongue biting aside. The girl that played Nicole, her own fone entered a whole other level; it became irritating to listen to her talk after a while. She’s also living proof that jealousy is the ugliest trait.

Cons:
There were a lot of things wrong with these movies that were annoying mostly because you could clearly see how they could have been done differently. Scenes that could have been condensed, side stories that should have ended in part 1 and characters who could have been scrapped. The whole idea of fraud they introduced with Muna and Oge and eventually Tonto kind of makes sense to the whole story although I still don’t understand what they were transferring from people’s phones or how none of the people figured out who it was. They mentioned every social networking site, even the ones that people don't use anymore and parts of the movie read like an ad with the characters spelling out all the uses of their phones. The movie was redundant; most of the wardrobe was just something else, the dialogue was cheesy and the ending was rushed and predictable. None of the "bad" characters redeemed themselves at the end, just a lot of humiliation and had I knowns.

So to conclude this long ass post, this is one of those watch at your own risk kind of movies. Depending on who you watch it with and how good they are at commentary, you will either be very amused or very irritated. This, I know, is a movie I cannot go out of my way to watch twice.

OMG! 3 MOVIES THAT REDEFINE STUPIDITY!!!

Hey guys, so its been a while. School is closed, I 've graduated (YAY ME :D) and now it's time for movies woot wooot lol

So I saw three movies today --- well technically 2 and a quarter movies cos I didn't go through with one.  my gosh it was pain on top of pain on top of pain and finally a migraine!

The 1st one was Chelsea! my oh my, idk where to begin. It's a Ghanaian movie with Nadia, Majid and John Dumelo...hmmm what can I say about this movie...oh yea, it is INCREDIBLY STUPID! i can't even tell you the story line cos quite frankly I don't remember lol. Just picture, naked Dumelo squatting in the bathtub, combined with Majid acting creepy and Nadia being foolish and you have yourself a storyline. Yup. Have fun with it lol here is a clip:

The second one was The Other Side of Love.....I really really tried to give it a chance but yea i couldn't take it. It had something to do with girlfriends, successful and hardworking mother, the FBI and Medicare roflmao that's all i can offer. SMH!

The third one....yea brace yourselves guys ..hmmmm..hmmmmm hmmmmm ....hmmmmmm it's called Temptation. Hmmmmmm! Na mehn this one come give me Migraine oooo it's a movie with Majid and some unknown characters. Oh boy, 20mins into the movie and am like what what what? and then the movie begins with a list a characters and am like WTF! and as I still dey try to understand what in the WORLD is going on, part one ends roflmao! ok oooo i say make i continue shaa and then part two (extra confused expression combined with one tablet of Tylenol),and then part three .... my people, eeehhhhh, this movie did not make any sense until the last half of the last part. It should be illegal for movies like this not to have a warning that says: have a bottle of Tylenol or Advil or Paracetamol next to you before you begin because you will lose some brain cells watching this. OMG! Laugh Don Kill Me EEEEE ...here is a clip, proceed with caution and ... Don't forget your Tylenol!

Official Name "Breath of Love" ... my name for it "Breath of Lameness"

This is the most stupid movie of all time. No actually I take that back, 4 play/heart of men were d most stupid movies (as far as am concerned) but this right here is just plain foolishness! Don't even waste your time. I am not surprised to see Yvonne Nelson in it - the lady has no taste based on the movies I have seen her in. But the nerve of Ramsey Nouah to be in this foolishness that has no head or tail...smdh! Sorry I can't tell y'all the story line cos 1) It has no story and 2) I only saw 10minutes of it (10 precious minutes of my time wasted *insert angry face*) Literally DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! yeah that's all I have to say.

Here is a link (if you feel like wasting time that is):
