Memories of My Heart/ Tango With Me

Ok guys, am so sorry for the lack of movie related posts lately, but I promise that from May, it's gonna be movies, movies, movies....well, at least for the most part ;)

In the meantime, I am set to watch "Memories of My Heart" with Ramsey and Ini Edo and "Tango with Me" with Genevieve - haven't found either of them online yet :( but am sure I would soon *hopeful face*. So check back later for my very candid evaluation :D

Ps: if you find a link for any or both before I do, please let me know...

Nigeria, My Nigeria...Oh how much I heart thee *broken heart*

So, I woke up this morning to news that the elections in Nigeria were postponed and according to Jega:

"We cannot proceed with these elections if we want them to be free, fair and credible if there are no result sheets," Jega said. "We cannot bury our heads and say there are no problems. It is regrettable. It is unfortunate. It should not have happened."

Is this guy serious??? *eyes bulging*.... And the icing on the cake:

"Jega said he takes full responsibility for the fiasco but he said a vendor that was supplying results sheets and ballots was unable to deliver them on time. The vendor, said Jega, cited the diversion of planes to carry relief supplies to earthquake-stricken Japan as the reason for the delay." - Lagos, Nigeria (CNN)

Wow!!! Like WOW!

I am not only shocked at this news, I am beyond dismayed! I like to be optimistic in certain situations concerning Nigeria but dang mehn this country keeps making it difficult for people, like me, to remain so! I mean by Friday, April 1st, shouldn't INEC have known that election materials were not ready? How come these materials were not even ready weeks ago? I am sorry but this kind of kickoff to the elections definitely dampens the little faith I have in Nigeria to conduct a free, fair and credible election this year. Thankfully, my fire of hope has not been completely extinguished, at least not yet. I just hope INEC gets its shit together and let have a much brighter finish and with the least amount of mishaps. God bless my country!

Random Post - Devalue the Naira or Deplete our foreign reserves?

So the IMF recently recommended that the naija government should devalue the naira some more, and make the economy more open in order to save the country. That's the only way we would be able to meet our fiscal budget without depleting our foreign reserves.  I personally think that's the worst advise ever! devalue what naira? The naira that currently is at 150/$1? That naira? God forbid! how dare they? They are advising the government - our government - to send our generation and generation of our children and children's children into future slavery? We should be revaluing the naira not devaluing it some more. Screw foreign reserves. I know that a country without foreign reserves is in big trouble because it won't be able to buy factors of production from other countries without selling its own factors for credit and so on. But hey that applies only to countries engaging in international trade. Now I suggest that Nigeria closes its borders to all international trade and rebuild our nation. Yea I know it would be hard considering that we import a lot of things, and we owe foreign countries lots of money but hey there is always a way. We can gradually start cutting down on trade by actually encouraging and working towards the growth of our local industries. Its not hidden knowledge that Nigerians are extremely talented. yea it would take a while but at least we would be working towards something positive. Shaa, It's just my suggestion. So what do y'al think? devalue the naira or deplete foreign reserves?

PS: This is just my suggestion, am not saying its the best suggestion but I figured this is the lesser evil compared to devaluing the naira. Would love to have some interesting opinions from you guys :)

oh yea, this is an old post, i just never published it till now lol
